The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of Country Japan offers scholarships for aspirant international students from different countries. Under the MEXT Scholarship Programme, students from foreign countries can study in the universities of Japan. The students can choose their desired fields and study their favorite courses. They can select the top 3 preferred courses of their choice. Moreover, the candidates can also apply for the scholarship to study in the country.

Eligibility Criteria to Apply for MEXT Scholarship 

Let us see the eligibility criteria that an applicant should fulfill to get eligible for the MEXT Scholarship 2024 to study in Japan.

• The applicant students should belong to any of the countries which is having diplomatic relationships with Japan.
• The candidates with dual citizenship concerning the Japanese country can also apply for the MEXT Scholarship.
• The applicants must be born on or before 2nd April 1997 to get eligible for the scholarship.
• The students who have completed 12 years of schooling in countries other than Japan are eligible.
• The Applicants should complete their studies at a school equivalent to a Japanese upper secondary school in countries other than Japan.
• The Applicants who have successfully passed an academic qualification examination equivalent to the completion of 12 years of schooling in countries other than Japan.
• The applicant candidates should be willing to learn the Japanese language.
• The candidates should submit the health certificate in the prescribed format.
• The applicant must possess a student visa to arrive to Japan for the MEXT Scholarship.

How to Apply for the MEXT Scholarship to Study in Japan

Let us see the step-by-step guide to apply for the MEXT Scholarship online on the official portal.

• Visit the official portal of the Embassy of Japan in India.
• Click on the Education Section in the Menu Bar on the home page.
• Now, click on the Study in Japan link on the newly opened page.
• Click on the Japanese Government Scholarships.
• Now, Click on the following courses list in the table.

• It then takes the online applicant to the below page.

• Scroll down the web page and click on the Application Form next to the Application Documents and Forms Section.

• It then opens up the application form of MEXT Scholarship in PDF Format.
• The applicants should take a printout of the form and should start filling it manually.
• Moreover, the application form is both in English and Japanese language.
• Enter the Surname, Given Name, and Middle Name.

1. Tick the Gender, Marital Status, Japanese Nationality, and Enter the Expatriation Date.
2. Enter Date of Birth, Current Address, Country, Current Resident Status in Japan.
3. Enter the Phone Number, Email, Name of the School / Organization, and Specialized field of study in high school or university.

• Fill in the complete education details such as Educational Level, School Name, Location, Year and Month of Enrolment and Graduation, Period of Schooling Attended, Status and Remarks.

• Also, answer the Yes or No for a few questions relevant to the scholarship.
• Enter the Prefered field of Study in Japan, and Select the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choices and enter the details regarding the same.
• Enter the other details like Language Ability, Self Ration on the same, Japanese Language Qualifications and English Language Qualifications.

• Enter the contact person’s details in the home country in case of emergency, like Name, Current Address, Occupation, Phone Number, and Email.

• Enter the applicant’s signature and the date of applying at the end of the form.
• After filling in all the details, attach all the documents required with the application form.
• After that, the applicant students should submit it to the concerned officials.

Note: Owing to the ongoing situation related to COVID-19, there is a possibility that the application procedure could be changed or stopped at a later stage, and the Embassy may entirely cancel the selection of candidates of the scholarship programs for the academic year 2024.
